Compliance Officer

The Financial Services Industry helps clients achieve their financial goals. Any efforts to resolve our clients’ complaints contribute to an improved client experience. As a Compliance Officer, you will investigate and respond to client queries, both verbal and written. You will be required to work with regulators, internal and external counsel and the Ombudsman’s Office regarding escalated complaints and potential legal action. You will identify either areas of exposure requiring action or changes in the regulations, assist in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures. You will also develop and maintain strong relationships with the various regulatory organizations.

This position provides you with the skills and knowledge for many other roles in the legal and regulatory risk area or the governance and controls areas of a financial services institution.

For this role you would need to have a solid understanding of the investment industry gained through previous experience and working knowledge of securities regulations and internal compliance policies. You would also have strong attention to detail and effective verbal and written communication skills. To do this role, you will have completed the Canadian Securities Course (CSC), the Conduct and Practices Handbook and the Option Licensing Course and would also be willing to successfully complete the Partner, Directors and Senior Officers Course. Any experience with the investigation of client complaints should be highlighted. Bilingualism is an asset.


Commercial Account Manager

As a Commercial Account Manager, you will manage the relationships for a portfolio of commercial customers and individuals connected to commercial accounts. You will be responsible for the analysis of the opportunity, information, credit decision and its profitability. You will be required to sell both credit/non-credit products to customers and prospects in the small business and mid-market place. This role requires you to develop an extensive network of referral sources through effective community involvement.

This position provides you with the skills and knowledge for many other roles in financial services like Commercial Banking Area Manager and Branch Manager.

To do this role, you will need to have a post-secondary education in Commerce, Finance and Business. You should have in-depth to expert knowledge of Banking products with a focus on commercial products and business banking investment products and basic knowledge of personal products including lending and investments. You should also possess your commercial and personal discretionary/approval lending limits and you will have successfully completed the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and be licensed to sell mutual funds.


Credit Officer

As a Credit Officer, your role will be to decide how risky it is to lend the client money guided by the lending policies of the financial services institution. You will also be responsible for working with other teams for support in order to resolve any issues that may arise between the time the client is approved for the loan and when you and the client finalize the transaction.

A Credit Officer position provides you with the skills and knowledge for many other roles in financial services. You can continually progress to roles like Credit Specialist, Mortgage Specialist, Credit Manager, Accounts Manager, Financial Planner and Branch Manager – all very important roles that contribute to the financial services institution achieving its goals of not only strong financial performance but also being a community partner and a supporter of environmental issues.

To do this role, you will need to have basic knowledge of banking products and services, lending policies and procedures. You must be proficient using a computer and the Microsoft software suite. You may also be required to learn new software and in these cases, training will be provided. On your resume, it would be best if you highlight any experience where you were able to manage many details and still be accurate and efficient in your work. We will also value any experience that tells us you are very organized and you can work by yourself as well as with a team in a busy environment. If you have worked in a telephone or collections environment, serving clients or working with others in team, we would like to hear about it. While we prefer that you have had education after high school, we will still evaluate your application even if you don’t, but have the transferable skills required for the role.


Customer Service Representative

To do this role, you will need the knowledge offered though the following courses/programs - CSC – Canadian Securities Course, Portfolio Management, Conduct and Practices Handbook (CPH), Professional Financial Planning Course (PFPC), The Wealth Management Essential Course (WME). You will also need the designation Certified Financial Planner (CFP) (in Quebec, the Financial Planning designation as recognized by the IQPF). Candidates will also be considered if they can obtain the knowledge/certification in a relatively short period of time.

For this role you would need a minimum of 2 years of relationship sales experience in the financial services industry – preferably in a financial planning/advisory capacity. Also, you must be eligible to be registered with industry regulators.


Financial Analyst, Regulatory Reporting

A Financial Planner role can be a stepping stone to other roles like Branch Manager and Personal Banking Area Manager.

To do this role, you will need to meet current provincial regulatory guidelines for the sale of mutual funds and the provision of investment or retirement planning advice. In addition, you must either be a Personal Financial Planner (PFP) or have the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation. You will also need to pass the Canadian Securities Course (CSC). Because you will be dealing directly with clients, you should possess strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills. You will contribute to your team’s marketing strategy while developing and maintaining a banking network of specialists or services support to refer prospective clients for other new business. You will also develop strong community relationships.

This position provides you with the skills and knowledge for many other roles in financial services such as Branch Manager, Mortgage Specialist and Financial Planner.

To do this role, you will need to have a proficient level knowledge of banking products and investments and an introductory level knowledge of personal lending, trust services, commercial lending, commercial cash management and a functional-level knowledge of Trust Services.

You should also have your personal credit qualification with lending limits and professional designations such as Investment Funds in Canada (IFIC) or Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and be qualified to sell mutual funds. You should also be able to demonstrate self-management and teamwork.


Fraud and Detection Analyst

For this role you would need to have strong analytical, problem-solving skills and must be able to make appropriate decisions. You must be organized and be able to communicate effectively (written/verbal). Self-motivation and the ability to work in a time-sensitive environment are necessary for success. Any experience in fraud detection or investigation, as well as customer contact experience should be highlighted. This role requires you to work flexible hours (days, evenings, weekends, and holidays).


Mortgage Specialist

As a Mortgage Specialist, your role will be to seek out referrals from realtors, builders, financial planners and other centres of influence who can inform on mortgage development initiatives. Following up on these referrals, you will meet with customers at their homes of places of business to process their mortgage applications, bringing in mortgage business and strong client relationships to the branch network of the financial services institution. The option of using your home as a base office is a possibility.

Helping clients find the funding to purchase a home could be very rewarding experience and as a Mortgage specialist, you can progress to roles like Mortgage Manager or Credit Manager.

To do this role, you will need to have some years of mortgage business development experience supported by your personal lending and credit qualifications. To bring in mortgage business, you must have an understanding of the legal framework, including case law, major legislation, regulations and codes of practice as it relates to residential mortgages. Because you will be interacting with the client at their location of choice, you will need to have strong interpersonal and communication skills and the willingness to work variable hours.
